Johnson Bayou High School to be Replaced
with a New Building
FEMA has been requested to replace Johnson
Bayou High School with a new elevated
school. Cameron Parish architects and
engineers have determined the building to be
75-80% damaged, which is well over FEMA’s
50% damage maximum for repairs. Johnson
Bayou students will attend classes in
Hackberry until their temporary campus is
completed in Johnson Bayou.

Johnson Bayou athletes are asked to call
coaches Darrell Lee at 304-6289, Todd Jinks
at 794-6364 or Principal Gene Reynolds at
515-4910.
Johnson Bayou High School has experienced
damages to approximately 80% of the school.
FEMA will be requested to fund a replacement
of the school, rather than repairs to the
school.
Johnson Bayou High
School remains off limits to all as architectural, engineering,
FEMA and insurance assessments are completed. When that process
is complete, Johnson Bayou High School employees will have an
assigned window of time to enter the school to remove any
salvageable items that remain. An alert will be sent.
Principals have been
requested to communicate with coaches to adjust athletic
practices and games and secure locations for alternate gyms.
Information for Johnson Bayou basketball plans and
transportation will be announced as soon as all details are

South Cameron High School Plans Progressing
An “Intent to Lease” agreement has been
signed for a large building on the south
side of Lake Charles. Designs to retrofit
the building in a quick turnaround are in
place. Furniture has already been ordered.
The owner is scheduled to make a final
decision by Wednesday as to whether he will
lease to Cameron Parish School Board.
Students will attend school at the alternate
site until the new temporary buildings are
in place in Creole. Construction continues
on the new elevated school, as well as the
restrooms and concession stand.

Plans are in the final stages for one alternate site for South
Cameron High School in the Lake Charles area, because there is
nothing available in Cameron Parish at this time. Announcements
will be made as soon as plans are finalized.
South Cameron High
School's temporary buildings are damaged beyond repair and will
be replaced. The Signature Group is preparing to begin the
restoration of the gym as soon as they can safely work.
South Cameron students
will not be housed at Grand Lake.
South Cameron High
School remains off limits to all as architectural, engineering,
FEMA and insurance assessments are completed. When that process
is complete, South Cameron High School employees will have an
assigned window of time to enter the school to remove any
salvageable items that remain. An alert will be sent.
Principals have been
requested to communicate with coaches to adjust athletic
practices and games and secure locations for alternate gyms.
Alfred Palma, the contractor for the new
elevated South Cameron High School is
prepared to return to the site as soon as it
is safe to enter with necessary large
equipment. Construction on the concession
and and restrooms by Shannon Smith
Contractors will continue at that time, as
well.
For more information, Cameron Parish School
Board families and employees are asked to check
the website at
www.camsch.org and listen to My State alert
messages. Videography and photography of Cameron
Parish are continually being added to the
website. Families are advised that the aerial
shots appear far more promising than what is the
reality on the ground for most of the homes,
schools, and buildings in Cameron Parish.
