CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRACURRICULAR
STUDENT ACTIVITIES
The Cameron Parish School Board recognizes that student activities, when properly planned and conducted in an appropriate, safe environment represent an essential part of the educational experience. The Board supports such extra classroom activities and will attempt to make them available on a voluntary basis to students. Student activities shall be provided to all students in a manner which allows students equal opportunity to participate in services and activities. All activities shall be in compliance with pertinent regulations of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Co-curricular activities are those activities that are relevant, supportive and are an integral part of the course of study in which the student is enrolled and which are under the supervision and/or coordination of the school instructional staff.
The following and their related activities may be considered co-curricular:
Future Business Leaders of America
Future Farmers of America
Future Homemakers of America
4-H Clubs
Literary Rally
Science Fair
Social Studies Fair
Music Festivals
Career Days
Drug Programs
Award Days
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Extracurricular activities are those activities which are not directly related to the program of studies and which are under the supervision and/or coordination of the school instructional staff and are considered valuable for the overall development of the student.
Notwithstanding any policy, rule, or regulation adopted by the School Board to the contrary, no student otherwise eligible to participate in an extracurricular activity, including interscholastic athletics, shall be limited in the number of such activities in which the student may participate in a school year.
The following and their related activities may be considered extracurricular:
Interscholastic Athletics
Student Council
Leo Club
Homecoming Activities
Pep Rallies
Pep Squad
Rodeo Club
Band Trips
Cheerleaders
Annual Staff
Library Club
Fellowship of Christian Athletics
Beta Club
GUIDELINES
To participate in any activity, a student:
Cannot participate in any event during day or night while suspended from school.
Must be in attendance at school at least one hour prior to time he/she is released to participate in an event. Only the school administrator can grant exceptions to this rule.
If release time is allowed for an event, it should be approved by the Principal and kept to a minimum based on the school's release time plan as submitted to and approved by the Central office.
All work missed by students while participating in student activities or events shall be made up and completed in a manner that would be required of any other students in order to receive credit.
Release time for interscholastic sports shall be governed by the rules of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
Release time for activities not addressed within the school's plan must be approved by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent prior to allowing release time for such activity.
SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENT PARTICIPATION
All non-academic and extracurricular services and activities shall be offered to all exceptional students in a manner that allows them equal opportunity to participate in services and activities.
CO-CURRICULAR TRAVEL
The Board shall set aside a total of $5,000 per year, to assist in request for funds for co-curricular travel and competition at the national level for Cameron Parish students, not to exceed $500.00 per student.
