Cameron, Louisiana

The Cameron Parish School Board met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Clifton Morris - President, Loston McEvers, Dot Theriot, Dwayne Sanner, Pat Howerton, and Rachel Abadie.  Absent: Marvin Trahan.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the agenda.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board approved the minutes of the April 14, 2003 regular meeting as printed.

 

The Board recognized the South Cameron High School Lady Tarpons Softball Team, Class IA Finalist for 2002-2003.

 

On motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board recognized EMS Week, May 18-24, 2003, and received information on related activities for the schools and community.

 

On motion of Mr. Sanner, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Board  received comments from Mr. Rick Merchant, CAE President.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board received reports as noted in the ensuing list, with policy elements to be presented for adoption at the Board Meeting on June 9, 2003.

On motion of Mr. Sanner, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Board received policy adjustments pursuant to aspects of No Child Left Behind with policy elements to be presented for adoption at the Board Meeting on June 9, 2003 - Policy File: IFDA; cf: IDDH, IFD, JBCBB, JR.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board accepted lowest bids on the entire list of maintenance items as received from the Finance Committee Meeting.  (Tabulations attached.)

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board tabled action on future aspects of Section 16, Township 12 South, Range 11 West and will consider the item at the June 9, 2003 Board Meeting.

 

On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board granted the Superintendent approval to pursue and seek federal funds through the Federal Programs Consolidated Application for FY2004 (2003-2004) with application components and budget to be presented to the Board on June 9, 2003.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Board approved the Special Education application for IDEA (Individuals with Disability Education Act), Flow Through/Pre School Funds for FY 2004 (2003-2004).

 

On motion of Mr. Sanner, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board approved Change Order #2 in the amount of $13,419.77 for School District 5, Johnson Bayou (assorted items including electrical, vent hoods, roof drain).

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Board approved payment of architectural fees in the amount of $22,562.40 for School District  5, Johnson Bayou High School.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Board approved personnel items:

 

Leave:

 

Linda O. McKinney - Teacher - Hackberry High School - extended sick leave

Kim G. Trahan - Teacher at Grand Lake High - leave without pay for the 2003-2004 school year

 

Appointment:

 

Sonya Renee Cross - Sweeper (6 hours/day) - South Cameron High School

Resignation:

 

Kelly Clark - Teacher at South Cameron High - effective at close of   business day on May 5, 2003

 

On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board approved payment of application No. 9 to Bessette Development in the amount of $158,796.30 for School District 5 (bond issue construction funds).

                                                                             

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Board approved the action of the Finance Committee pursuant to financial reports.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Board approved the action of the Finance Committee pursuant to payment of bills.

 

On motion of Mr. Sanner, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board adjourned until the next regular meeting on June 9, 2003.

              The Committee of the Whole met on this date at 4:00 p.m. with the following members present:  Clifton Morris - President, Loston McEvers, Dot Theriot, Dwayne Sanner, Pat Howerton, and Rachel Abadie.  Absent: Marvin Trahan.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Committee approved the agenda.

 

On motion of Mrs. Abadie, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Committee approved the minutes from the April 14, 2003 meeting as printed.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Committee heard a report from Mr. M. B. Slocum pursuant to Worker’s Compensation, with this item to be ratified at the June 9, 2003 Board Meeting.

 

On motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mr. Howerton, the Committee received and recommended approval of bids and quotes, (excluding data for the central office):  floor tile and South Cameron High School weight room flooring - District 10 Bond Funds; roofing at South Cameron High School - District 10 Bond Funds; fence repairs; painting.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Committee heard a report on future aspects of Section 16, Township 12 South, Range 11 West and tabled the item for action at the June 9, 2003 Board Meeting.

 

On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Committee received financial reports with explanations.

 

On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Committee reviewed bills for payment with explanations.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Committee adjourned.
