Cameron, Louisiana

July 12, 2004

 

The Cameron Parish School Board met in regular session on this date with the following members present:  Clifton Morris – President, Loston McEvers, Dot Theriot, Dwayne Sanner, Pat Howerton, and Rachel Abadie.   Absent:  Marvin Trahan.

 

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Board approved the agenda.

 

On motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the minutes from the June 14, 2004 regular meeting and the June 30, 2004 special meeting  as printed.

 

The Board received from Dennis Trahan, Cameron Communications, the annual phone directory cover picture.

 

On motion of Mr. Sanner, seconded by Mr. Howerton, the Board considered action of the Finance Committee and accepted low bids on the following items for 2004-2005: (tabulations attached)

 

(A)                Janitorial supplies

(B)                Paper goods

(C)                Duplicating paper

 

On motion of Ms. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Board considered action of the Finance Committee and accepted low bids on the following items for 2004-2005: (tabulations attached)

 

(A)                Bread

(B)                Milk

 

On motion of Mr. Sanner, seconded by Mr. Howerton, the Board authorized advertising for bids for surface leases as follows:

 

(A)    Leases which expire July 31, 2004 –

 

16-14-12

16-15-14

 

(B)    Unpaid leases with renewals due 7-31-04.

 

On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board authorized adoption of the salary schedule considered by Committee members. 

 

On motion by Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Board authorized accepting the Superintendent’s recommendation to remove from the table and delete the resolution entitled “Management of New Revenue”.

 

On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board removed from the table the item entitled  for “physical education and athletic needs,” received a report,  and authorized the Superintendent to obtain additional data.

 

On motion of Mrs. Abadie, seconded by Mr. Howerton, the Board approved the financial report (from Finance Committee) and the payment of bills (from Finance Committee).

 

            On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board voted to enter into executive session to receive a report from a parent and student.

            ABSENT:          Mr. Trahan

           

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board voted to return to regular session.

On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board received the report from the executive session.

 

On motion of Mrs. Abadie, seconded by Mrs. Theriot , the Board approved personnel items.

 

Non-renewal of Employment:

 

Melinda Harrington – Johnson Bayou High – recommend termination effective at the close of the 2003-2004 session and the expiration of her contract based upon her non-certified status, alignment with reconstituted school goals, and envisaged program expectations.

 

Appointments:

                        Kelly Mancilla – Cameron Elementary – Elementary Teacher

                        Lindsay Smythe – Grand Lake – High School Teacher

Harriett Savoy – Hackberry – Provisional appointment – ½ day High School (effective August 13, 2004 and not to exceed the 2004-2005 Session.)

Shelia Soirez – Hackberry – Provisional appointment – Elementary Teacher

Brenda Sanders – Johnson Bayou – provisional transfer from full-time teaching to one-half time teaching and one-half time administrative assistant for a period not to exceed the 2004-2005 session.

Darryl Lee – Johnson Bayou – Middle/High School Teacher

Susan Lee – Johnson Bayou – Middle/High School Teacher

Deborah Hoffpauer – Johnson Bayou – Middle/High School Teacher

Joseph Williamson – Johnson Bayou – Middle/High School Teacher

Jaime Williamson – Johnson Bayou – Elementary Teacher

Pat Barentine – Johnson Bayou – Provisional appointment as an Aide

Josie Boudreaux – South Cameron Elementary – Provisional appointment as Librarian for fall semester

Torrey Bonsall – Central Office – Purchasing/Secretary

           

Superintendent Chance distributed to the board members a Continued Employment Directory.

 

            Bus Drivers Appointments:

 

                        Ms. Janice Crochet – South Cameron Elementary & South Cameron High provisional day-to-day appointment for the session. 

Ms. Peggy Hebert – Grand Lake School – provisional day-to-day appointment

Ms. Rita Theriot – Cameron Elementary School – provisional day-to-day appointment

Ms. Crystal Savoie – Cameron Elementary School – provisional day-to- day appointment

 

            Leave:

 

Jan LaLande – Cameron Elementary – Lunchroom Technician – leave without pay for the 2004-2005

 

            On motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the Board adjourned until the next regular session of August 9, 2004.

On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Committee received a report on a salary schedule from Superintendent Chance.
