Parish of Cameron

The Cameron Parish School Board met in special called session as a result of the death of Mr. Clifton Morris, with the following members present: Loston McEvers, Dwayne Sanner, Dot Theriot and Mrs. Rachel Abadie. Absent: Clifton Morris, Pat Howerton and Marvin Trahan.
Mr. Loston McEvers, Board President, called the special meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
The agenda made provisions for public comment regarding Election District #1; however, hearing none, Mr. McEvers moved to the next agenda item, comments from board members.
Comments from board members regarding the vacant position in Election District #1 were begun by Mr. McEvers, Board President. He expressed appreciation for the service Mr. Clifton “BoBo” Morris rendered to Election District #1 as well as to all of Cameron Parish. Further, Mr. McEvers acknowledged the contributions Mrs. Patty Morris made to the parish during Mr. Morris’s illness by assisting him at board meetings, and he recommended that board members consider appointing Mrs. Patty Morris to complete the unexpired term of her husband. Mrs. Rachel Abadie shared similar sentiments including appreciation for Mr. Morris’ parish-wide work. Mrs. Dot Theriot was complimentary and recommended the appointment of Mrs. Patty Morris since she could continue the work Mr. Morris had begun. Mr. Dwayne Sanner expressed agreement with the comments made by other members of the board with confidence in Mrs. Morris’ ability to work for the citizens of Johnson Bayou and Holly Beach. On behalf of Mr. Pat Howerton and Mr. Marvin Trahan who were absent due to health reasons, Superintendent Chance shared comments of appreciation for Mr. Morris’ service to the students and employees of Cameron Parish as well as Mr. Howerton and Mr. Trahan’s support of the board’s consideration of Mrs. Morris’ appointment.
On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Board approved the appointing of Mrs. Patty Morris to complete the unexpired term of Board Member for Election District #1, Cameron Parish School Board.
AYES: Mrs. Theriot, Mr. Sanner, Mr. McEvers and Mrs. Abadie
NAYES: None
ABSENT: Mr. Howerton and Mr. Trahan
Mr. Carl Broussard, Cameron Parish Clerk of Court, administered the Oath of Office and completed paperwork to file with the Office of Secretary of State.
On motion of Mr. Sanner, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board voted to adjourn.
