School Board Minutes
September 8, 2008
The Cameron Parish School Board met at its regular meeting on this date, members in attendance are: R. Scott Nunez, Loston McEvers, Dot Theriot, Marsha Trahan, Marvin Trahan; absent were Dwayne Sanner and Karen Nunez.
The prayer and the pledge were led by Loston McEvers and MarvinTrahan.
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the agenda with addendum.
On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board approved the minutes as printed from the August 11, 2008 regular board meeting.
On the motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the Louisiana Public Schools Risk Management Agency overage for general, automobile, physical damage and errors and omissions liability, including rejection of uninsured/underinsured motorists resolution, as presented by Mr. M.B. Slocum of Slocum and Associates.
On the motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Trahan, the Board approved the following Financial Issues:
Approved the adoption of the 2008-2009 Cameron Parish School Board Budget, as published in the Cameron Pilot - Mrs. Smythe
Received the Financial Statement and reports of Current Investments including change in CD rate of 2.41/5 months and 3.26/13 months as quoted in error by Cameron State Bank; actual rate was 1.92%- Mrs. Smythe
Authorized payment of the bills - Ms. Lannin
Received monthly update on FEMA issues, with overall payments of $5,755,140.29 and approximate $1,700,000.00 in que for payment to date, per spread sheet as presented by the Superintendent
On the motion of Mr. McEvers seconded by Mr. Nunez, the Board approved increasing substitute pay as of July 1, 2008, to reflect greater than minimum wage through July 24, 2009 as follows, as presented by the Superintendent:

Teacher (degreed with a teaching certificate) $20.00 per clock hour taught
On the eleventh consecutive day hourly rate per regular salary schedule
Teacher (degreed, no certificate) $15.00 per clock hour taught
On the eleventh consecutive day $18.00 per clock hour taught
Teacher (non-degreed) $10.00 per clock hour taught
On the eleventh consecutive day $12.00 per clock hour taught
School Clerks $8.00 per clock hour worked
Secretaries $8.00 per clock hour worked
Bookkeepers $8.00 per clock hour worked
Paraprofessionals $8.00 per clock hour worked
Janitors $8.00 per clock hour worked
Sweepers $8.00 per clock hour worked
Food Service $8.00 per clock hour worked
Bus Drivers $65.00 full day

On the motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Trahan, the Board received the update of the Gustav evacuation and return update and Ike evacuation current procedures, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mrs. Trahan, seconded by Mr. Trahan, the Board approved a parish procedure to cancel all athletic events, practices and other activities during an evacuation and until school reconvenes with provision to allow the Superintendent to lift the practice prohibition, if and when appropriate, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board received a report on eligibility of Cameron Parish for Emergency Preparedness expenses related to Hurricanes Gustav and Ike at 75% funding, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mr. Trahan, the Board received a report of FEMA/Louisiana Public Assistance temporary sole focus on Gustav affected areas of the state, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the revised Acceptable Use Policy for Internet and District Network Resources and Web Publishing Policy, in accordance with previously approved 2008 Cameron Parish School Board Long-range Instructional Technology Plan, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mrs. Trahan, seconded by Mr. Trahan, the Board approved the educational absences of 43 Grand Lake High School students and 10 faculty members, and also to include any additional students and faculty members from any Cameron Parish schools, to attend the private trip to Washington, D.C., on January 17-21, 2009 for the Presidential Inauguration as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mrs. Trahan, the Board approved the out-of-state field trip for Johnson Bayou High School Basketball team, January 18, 2009, basketball game at High Island, Texas, Parish owned bus with certified driver, 30 students, submitted by Robert Kimball, Assistant Principal.
On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board approved to advertise for public bid on sale of surplus used busses

and purchase of three new air conditioned busses with tinted windows, locks and capacity to transport three wheel chairs with maximum seating possible, as well as retrofitting of last 6 new buses (2006-2008) with air conditioners, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the recommendation of District Attorney Cecil Sanner, to extend the mineral lease to Sabine Land and Exploration for one additional year from November 8, 2008 to November 8, 2009, at $144,640.00 for this one year's extension as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the Personnel Report as presented by the Superintendent.
