Parish of Cameron

The Cameron Parish School Board met at its regular meeting on this date and meeting was called to order at 5:05 pm, members in attendance are: Marsha Trahan, Christi Labove, John Canik, Sheila Miller, Sharon Picou, Joseph Delcambre and Paula Smythe.  

 

Members absent: Rhonda Boudreaux

 

The prayer and the pledge were led by Mrs. Miller and Mr. Canik.

 

             On the motion of Mrs. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Miller, the Board approved the agenda.

 

The Board received information and recognized the following Cameron Parish Students:

·        Students of The Year

·        Grand Lake High School 2016 State FFA Meat ID Team

·        Hackberry High School 2016 LHSA Class C State Girls Softball & Track Champions

·        Hackberry High School 2015 Class C Boys Cross Country & Track State Champions

 

On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Picou, the Board received information from 4-H Office- Parish Chairman for Cameron, Brittany Bourg- 4-H Agent and approved a $500 stipend for Gabby Talbot per Policy IDE- Co-Curricular Travel Stipend Request, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Picou, the Board received information from GLHS FFA Sponsors Kim Montie and Scotty Poole and approved a $500 stipend per student for FFA Meat ID Members- Grant Davis, Kyrah Devall, Allison Ross and Kaycee Richard per Policy IDE- Co-Curricular Travel Stipend Request, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Picou, the Board approved the minutes of the April 11, 2016 regular meeting of the Cameron Parish School Board, as prepared by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Picou, the Board approved "Proces Verbal and Resolution Promulgating the Results of the April 9, 2016 Election”-Tax Millage Renewal Election, as presented by Mr. Joseph A. Delafield and the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Miller, the Board discussed the land issues and received the monthly property income report as prepared by Mr. Lee Bloch- Bloch, Briggs & Associates.

 

The Board received reports on the following financial issues, as presented by Mrs. Michelle Trahan:

 

·        Authorization of payment of the bills

·        Receipt of Financial Statement and Reports of Current Investments

 

The Board received monthly report on FEMA Project Worksheets, as prepared and presented by James Hoffpauir, Hoffpauir Architects.

 

The Board received reports on current construction bid activities, as presented by James Hoffpauir, Hoffpauir Project Management Team:

On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Picou, the Board approved Sulphur Electric Company, Inc., low bidder, as General Contractor for Grand Lake Baseball Field and North Road Lighting- FEMA –Rita Alt. PW 4753

            The Board received proposals for warranty work at Johnson Bayou High School, as presented by Mr. Randy Broussard, Broussard Architects, LLC.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Labove, the Board approved authorizing the Superintendent to advertise for new bids and accept low bids on currently advertised projects due to requisite number of advertising days and a need to move forward on projects, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

The Board received updates on current FEMA, CDBG and General Fund Construction, Repairs, and Renovations to permanent and temporary sites' projects from Hoffpauir Architects, LLC, Cameron Parish School Board's Project Management Firm, as presented by Hoffpauir Architects, LLC and Project Architects.    

 

On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Picou, the Board approved granting out-of-state travel to the South Cameron High School Danceline to attend Dance Camp in Hot Springs, Arkansas from June 19-22, 2016. Transportation by school bus with certified driver, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Picou, the Board approved granting out-of-state travel to the South Cameron High School Cheerleaders to attend Cheerleading Camp in Moody Gardens, Galveston, TX from June 12-15, 2016. Transportation by school bus with certified driver, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Miller, seconded by Mrs. Picou, the Board approved granting out-of-state travel to the Johnson Bayou High School – 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Science, Math & Social Studies classes to attend Houston Museum of Science & History, Houston, Texas on May 12, 2016. Transportation by school bus with certified driver, as presented by the Superintendent.

Superintendent’s Report

May 09, 2016

 

Please accept this report regarding my efforts to meet the following Performance Objectives as outlined in Exhibit A of my employment contract:

 

1.      Human Resource Management

a.      Met with Curriculum and Instruction Committee to map out staffing plans according to policy.

b.      Conducted Principal evaluations at Grand Lake, Hackberry, Johnson Bayou, and South Cameron. Evaluation process included interviews with each school’s School Leadership Team.

 

2.      District Operations and Financial Management

a.      Met with Mr. Broussard, architect for Johnson Bayou High School to receive and review plans/proposals for addressing warranty items. 

b.      Met with Central Office Staff to discuss budget goals for 2016-2017.

c.      Participated in walk-through with architect at Hackberry High School to review ADA concerns as well as other maintenance issues.

 

3.      Student Growth and Achievement

a.      Met with Curriculum and Instruction Committee as well as LDOE Representatives to review testing plans and plans for Professional Development for 2016-2017 School Year.

b.      Met with representatives from Apple Inc. to begin process of writing Technology Plan for Cameron Parish.

c.      Met with Jason Rodriguez to discuss possibility of offering a Sports Medicine Curriculum for next year.

 

4.      Communication and Community Relations

a.      Met with representatives of Community Leader groups to review current budget and brainstorm ideas for next year’s budget.

b.      Attended Lions Club Luncheon.

c.      Attended National Day of Prayer Ceremony.

 

 

On the motion of Mrs. Picou, seconded by Mrs. Labove, the Board adjourned the regular school board meeting at 6:10 p.m.
