STUDENT TRANSPORTATION IN PRIVATE VEHICLES
The Cameron Parish School Board recognizes that there are times in which private vehicles need to be and are used to transport students to and from school sponsored events. The School Board directs that such transportation services shall only be utilized in times of emergency or hardship, as authorized by the Superintendent or his/her designee. Otherwise, proper student transportation, i.e., School Board owned or operated vehicles, shall be used.
When private vehicles are to be used, they shall be chosen well in advance of the anticipated usage, whenever possible. In situations where private vehicles are to be used for transporting students to school-related activities, the following guidelines shall be adhered to:
The driver of a vehicle must be a teacher, parent, or legal guardian of a student who has received permission from the Superintendent or his/her designee to do so.
The driver must provide school personnel with copies of his/her valid driver’s license and insurance card before receiving permission to drive.
The driver must have automobile liability insurance on the vehicle to be used.
The number of students to be transported shall not exceed the recommended capacity of the vehicle.
There must be on file with the principal or his/her designee, prior to any student travel in a private vehicle, written permission to do so from the student’s parent or legal guardian.
