CLASS SIZE

The Cameron Parish School Board acknowledges that student-teacher ratios and class sizes are important to student achievement; and further, the School Board acknowledges that the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) determines academic and accountability standards, determines the criteria of tests for promotion and graduation, and determines the funding formulas germane thereto.  Subsequently, the School Board, to the maximum extent possible, will require class size for grades Kindergarten-3 to be limited to 22 students and for grades 4-12 to be limited to 24 students.

Further, the School Board directs that if enrollment approaches enrollment maximums of 22 in grades Kindergarten-3 or 24 in grades 4-12, then the Superintendent, appropriate instructional supervisor, and principal shall analyze data with a view toward developing another section wherein teacher availability, benefit of an instructional aide, or another viable instructional solution will be factors considered.

The School Board may request from the State Superintendent of Education a limited waiver from complying with the systemwide 20-1 student-teacher ratio, provided the teacher has demonstrated effectiveness pursuant to the state evaluation program.
