Cameron, Louisiana

The Cameron Parish Clerk of Court, Mr. Carl Broussard, conducted the Oath of Office ceremony for all Board Members.

 

Election of Board Officers (President and Vice-President) for a two year term followed:

 

Mrs. Dot Theriot nominated Mr. Clifton Morris for Board President.  Mr. Marvin Trahan nominated Mr. Pat Howerton for Board President.  On motion of Mr. Loston McEvers, seconded by Mr. Marvin Trahan, the nominations were closed.  Mr. Clifton Morris, the first nomination, was presented for a vote of the Board.  The vote is recorded as follows:

 

YEAS:           Mrs. Dot Theriot, Mr. Clifton Morris, Mr. Dwayne Sanner, Mr. Loston McEvers

NAYS:           Mr. Marvin Trahan, Mr. Pat Howerton, Mrs. Rachel Abadie

ABSENT:       None                                                                            

 

Mr. Clifton Morris was elected President of the Board.

 

Mrs. Dot Theriot nominated Mr. Loston McEvers for Board Vice-President.   Mr. Marvin Trahan was nominated by Mr. Pat Howerton and declined the nomination.  On motion of Mr. Howerton, seconded by Mrs. Abadie, the nominations were closed.  Mr. Loston McEvers was elected Vice-President of the Board by acclamation.

 

The Cameron Parish School Board met in special session at 9:00 a.m. on this date with the following members present: Clifton Morris - President, Loston McEvers, Dot Theriot, Dwayne Sanner, Pat Howerton, Marvin Trahan, and Rachel Abadie.  Absent: None.

 

Mr. Teddy Broussard addressed the Board regarding the selection of the Superintendent.

 

Mr. Morris distributed ballots to Board members in accordance with the procedure previously approved by the Board.  Applicants for the position of Superintendent were Al Burguieres and Doug Chance.  Judith Jones stated that John DeBarge had withdrawn his application for family medical reasons.

 

Mr. Clifton Morris collected the ballots and read the results:

 

Votes for Al Burguieres:   Mrs. Theriot and Mr. Morris

 

Votes for Doug Chance:   Mrs. Abadie, Mr. Trahan, Mr. McEvers, Mr. Sanner and Mr. Howerton

 

Dr. Doug Chance was named Superintendent of Schools.                    


Mr. Morris named a committee of Board Members consisting of Mr. McEvers, Mrs. Theriot, and Mr. Sanner to meet to negotiate the Superintendents salary and contract and to make recommendations to the Board at the January 21, 2003 meeting.

 

On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Trahan, the Board adjourned.
