Parish of Cameron

The Cameron Parish School Board met at its regular meeting on this date, members in attendance are: Karen Nunez, R. Scott Nunez, Loston McEvers, Dot Theriot, Dwayne Sanner, Marsha Trahan, and Marvin Trahan.
The prayer and the pledge were led by the Cameron Parish Softball Teams.
On the motion of Mrs. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Trahan, the Board approved the agenda with addendum.
On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board approved the minutes as printed from the April 14, 2008 regular board meeting.
On a motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mrs. Trahan, the Board approved the recognition of Connie Dore’ Environment Awareness Competition Winners and student achievements at state levels of competition, as presented by the Superintendent. (See Attachment)
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved the
following Financial Issues:
· Authorize payment of the bills – Ms. Lannin
· Approve Financial Statement and reports of Current Investments including Cheniere Prepayments, Bond Schedule, Special Projects Fund – Mrs. Smythe
· Allocation of all Special Projects Fund equally among the four schools with interest to be equally allocated as it is accrued and with board members to bring to the board the projects for which said funds will be used, as projects are developed, as presented by Mr. McEvers
On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Trahan, the Board, received and approved a rollback of millage rates for the tax year 2008 as presented by Mrs. Smythe.

On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved the monthly update on FEMA issues – with overall payments of $5,061,122.35 to date, per spread sheet, including an additional $698,269.76 on return of what were previously NFIP penalties, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved
authorizing the Superintendent to request an elevation waiver, if such becomes necessary, from the Cameron Parish Police Jury for the South Cameron High School concession stand and restrooms, for the completion of that FEMA project, as presented by the Superintendent.

On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved the following out-of-state travel requests:
· Hackberry School – Eighth grade – Stacy Little –approximately 13 students, NASA Space Center, Houston Texas. Leaving 6:00 A.M. Thursday May 15, 2008, returning 5:30 P.M., on parish - owned school bus with regular certified route driver. Johnson Bayou School – Seventh grade – Susan Lee – approximately 17 students, Museum of Natural Science, Houston Texas. Leaving 7:30 A.M. Tuesday May 13, 2008, returning 8:00 P.M., on parish - owned route bus with certified driver.
· Grand Lake High School – Coaches Neal Kiser, Scott Miano, and Daniel Miller to participate in the Nike Championship Basketball Clinic, May 16-18, 2008, funded through Grand Lake High School Basketball Account.
· South Cameron High School science teachers Rachel Demeritt, Betty Guidry, and Sheri Dubard to participate in the Keystone Center Summer Science Institute, July 7-13, 2008, funded by Chevron.
· Grand Lake High School Teachers – Daisha Evans, Shantel Landreneau and Jendi Trahan to participate in the Accelerated Mathematics profession development activity, May 15, 2008, Beaumont, Texas, at a mileage cost only.
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board received information on the 2008 National School Boards Association Southern Region Conference, July 21-23, 2008, New Orleans, LA, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mrs. Nunez, seconded by Mr. McEvers, the Board approved an individual $500.00 stipend for national participation, as per policy, for Kallan Mudd, Grand Lake High School National Junior Beta Convention Speech Competitor, June 14-17, 2008, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board accepted the following bids for 2008-2009: Janitorial Supplies, Paper Goods, School Lunch Non-Food Supplies. Also, the Board approved to bid the following items: Milk and Bread for the 2008-2009 school year and approved the bid dates for School Food Service – Mat Bid, Canned/Frozen Foods, Support Foods, as presented by Mrs. Carpenter.
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mr. Nunez, the Board approved to bid for Duplicating Paper for 2008-2009 school year.
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved reaffirming Cameron Parish School Board action of March 12, 2007, that discontinues out-of-school zone bussing as of May 29, 2008, with a request for an extension through the end of Summer Remediation and Summer Retests – June 26, 2008, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved the authorization the Superintendent to sign all necessary documents for swap of land in Grand Lake with the Cameron Parish Police Jury, as per the resolution of the easement issue by District Attorney Cecil Sanner, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. McEvers, seconded by Mrs. Trahan, the Board received advisement that the Port of Lake Charles is postponing the pipeline project for which they previously requested a Right of Entry, as presented by the Superintendent.
On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Trahan, the Board approved the Personnel Report, as presented by the Superintendent.

Consider approving the annual continued employment resolution pursuant to LRS 745 of 1977 providing that a substitute employee shall have the same probability for employment after the 2008 summer vacation period, or another holiday, as the
