Parish of Cameron

The Cameron Parish School Board met at its regular meeting on this date, members in attendance are: Tracy Carter, Dot Theriot, Marsha Trahan, Karen Nunez, James Boudreaux, R. Scott Nunez and Dwayne Sanner.

 

The prayer and the pledge were led by Mrs. Nunez and Mr. Boudreaux.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board approved the agenda as revised.

 

On the motion of Mr. Boudreaux, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Board approved the board minutes of the regular meeting on March 12, 2012, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mr. Boudreaux, the Board approved the following financial issues:

 

·         Receive directive from Cameron Parish Tax Assessor Mona Kelly that 2012 millages must not be set until notification that re-assessment is complete for all taxing districts-Mrs. Trahan

·         Authorization of payment of the bills – Mrs. Trahan

·         Receipt of Financial Statement and Reports of Current Investments – Mrs. Trahan

·         Receipt of monthly update on FEMA issues, with overall payments of $ 50,527,553.19 (Rita, Gustav and Ike payments) to date, $16,228,316.89 in request for funds submitted to be paid – Ms. Sylvia Cisneros

·         Consider approval of advertising for bids for the items noted-Anna Murphy

           

1.     Copy Paper – 2012 - 2013 school year

2.     Official Journal – 2012 – 2013 school year

3.     Bread, Milk and Non Food (August 2012 – May 2013)  2012-2013 school year

4.     Janitorial Supplies – 2012-2013 school year

On the motion of Mrs. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board received a presentation by Lauren Harrell architect with Randall Broussard Architect, LLC on Johnson Bayou High School FEMA Rebuilding Project, as presented by Mrs. Harrell.

                                   

On the motion of Mrs. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board approved current construction bid activities, as presented by James Hoffpauir, Project Management.

On the motion of Mrs. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board approved authorizing the Superintendent to advertise for new bids and accept low bids on currently advertised projects due to requisite number of advertising days and a need to move forward on projects, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board received updates on current FEMA, CDBG and General Fund Construction, Repairs, and Renovations to permanent and temporary sites' projects from Hoffpauir Architects, LLC, Cameron Parish School Board's Project Management Firm, as presented by James Hoffpauir, Architect, and Selena Cisneros, Engineer, Superintendent and Project Architects.

 

On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved authorization to solicit and receive quotes under the authorization of the Superintendent to advertise for new bids/quotes, for Testing at the Grand Lake High School Track, CDBG, as approved for quote solicitation on February 16, 2012, with quotes received on February 16, 2012, for the purpose of moving forward on the project, as presented by James Hoffpauir, Architect, and Selena Cisneros, Engineer.

 

On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved authorizing Southwest Construction Materials Testing, Inc. as the testing contractor for the Grand Lake High School Track, CDBG, under the recommendation of the architect, as presented by James Hoffpauir, Architect, and Selena Cisneros, Engineer.

 

                        On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mr. Boudreaux, the Board received for 30 day review adoption of “Sexual Harassment Of and By Students” Policy, as prepared by Hammonds and Sills, to be formatted by Forethought Consulting LLC, once adopted, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

                        On the motion of Mr. Sanner, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved $500.  per national student qualifier and sponsor, and out-of-state travel for, the National FBLA Leadership Conference scheduled for June 24-27, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

·         Hackberry High School: Business Students Samuel Ducote , Blair Trahan and Cullen Beckman Sponsors/Chaperones Mrs. Stephanie East and Mrs. Kathy Helmer;

·         South Cameron High School: Business Students Chan Lalande, Dina Mendez, and Andrew Mudd and Sponsors/Chaperones Mrs. Jana Baccigalopi and Mr. Robert Kimball (or other faculty member)

 

On the motion of Mrs. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board approved the Personnel Report, as presented by Superintendent.

 

The Board voted to enter into executive session for hearing appeal to student disciplinary issues, as presented by theSuperintendent.

Consider approving the annual continued employment resolution pursuant to LRS

745 of 1977 providing that a substitute employee shall have the same probability

for employment after the 2012 summer vacation period or another holiday, as the

substitute employee had prior to the beginning of the vacation period – Superintendent
