Parish of Cameron

The Cameron Parish School Board met at its regular meeting on this date, members in attendance are: Marsha Trahan, Tracy Carter, Karen Nunez, James Boudreaux, R. Scott Nunez, Dwayne Sanner and Dorothy Theriot.

 

The prayer and the pledge were led by Mrs. Nunez and Mrs. Carter.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Sanner the Board approved the agenda and allowed Jason French, Director of Government and Public Affairs with Cheniere Energy, to address the board ahead of the SOWELA Partnership agenda item for the purpose of his presentation scheduled at another meeting at 6:00 PM.

 

On the motion of Mr. Boudreaux, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board approved the minutes of the December 9, 2013, Cameron Parish School Board meetings, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Nunez, the Board received the monthly report on property income, as prepared by Mr. Lee Bloch, Bloch, Briggs and Associates, as presented by the Superintendent.

 

On the motion of Mr. Boudreaux, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved acceptance of Independent Auditor’s Unqualified Opinion Report, as prepared by Kolder, Champagne, Slaven and Company, LLC, as presented by Mr. Rob Carter, CPA.

 

                        On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the following financial issues, as presented by Mrs. Michelle Trahan:

·         Authorization of payment of the bills

·         Receipt of Financial Statement and Reports of Current Investments

·         Receipt of Eagle Asset Management December Report

·         Receipt of monthly report on FEMA Project Worksheets, as prepared by Hoffpauir Architects

 

At the recommendation of Finance Committee Chairman Scott Nunez, and the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board accepted finance committee meeting report.

 

                        On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Sanner, the Board tabled consideration until the February 10, 2014 meeting of a five year program of Career education coursework to prepare students for regionally available, high-paying careers, in alignment with the Louisiana Department of Education, the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance and local industries, as presented by the Superintendent and Mrs. Theriot.

 

On the motion of Mr. Boudreaux, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved current construction bid activities, as presented by James Hoffpauir, Project Management:

 

A.  Projects to be bid-   James Hoffpauir, Project Management

·    South Cameron High School Parking Lot- Bid date to be determined

B.  Projects out for bid-   James Hoffpauir, Project Management

·     Johnson Bayou Restroom, Concession, Storage- FEMA-Rita- - Bids to be received January 28, 2014

C.  Quote out for response-   James Hoffpauir, Project Management

·         None at this time.

 

D.   Approval of bid and quote awards- Architects and Project Management

·         Consider approval of Trahan Construction, LLC,, low bidder, as General Contractor for Grand Lake High School Athletic Field House-Reserve Funds

On the motion of Mr. Boudreaux, seconded by Mrs. Nunez, the Board approved updates on current FEMA, CDBG and General Fund Construction, Repairs, and Renovations to permanent and temporary sites' projects from Hoffpauir Architects, LLC, Cameron Parish School Board's Project Management Firm, as presented by James Hoffpauir, Architect, and Selena Cisneros, Engineer.

 

On the motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board approved renewal of Property, Boiler Machinery and Pollution insurance coverage at a savings of $52,170. with a 5% increase in Cameron Parish School Board insured values of $96,805,851. and declined terrorism coverage at $7017.15, as presented Nancy Sylvester, Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, Inc.

            On the motion of Mr. Boudreaux, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board received update on reports of Special Counsel and Louisiana Legislative Auditor, as presented by President Marsha Trahan.

 

On the motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mrs. Carter, the Board adjourned the regular school board meeting.
