NEWS MEDIA RELATIONS
The Cameron Parish School Board encourages a policy of sound relations with the press and other communication to the media in the parish. The Superintendent shall plan for periodic releases to the press and other communication media which will provide information to the community concerning its schools and various phases of the Board’s program.
The Board also believes that one of the paramount responsibilities of a school board in a democracy is to keep the public informed of its actions. Consequently, local news media representatives shall be welcome to attend all regular and special meetings of the Board.
The Board shall direct all regular news releases to originate in the central office to deliver information to the public about the school system. The Superintendent or his/her designee shall be the official spokesman to inquiries of the news media. He/she or his/her designee shall provide research assistance as needed by reporters who are writing features about the schools, whenever possible.
The Superintendent or his/her designee shall hold press conferences as the need for such conferences shall indicate. The Superintendent shall be the authorized interpreter of Board policy to the public and to the employees of the Board.
Information concerning any present or foreseeable emergencies shall be transmitted to all Board members as necessary. Unless another person is so designated, the Board shall recognize the Superintendent as the sole spokesman of the Board and school district during any emergency. Questions for information shall be directed to the Superintendent.
