The Cameron Parish School Board met in special session at 9:00 A.M. on this date with the following members present: Loston McEvers, Dot Theriot, Patty Morris, Marvin Trahan, Dwayne Sanner and Scott Nunez ; absent member is: Rachel Abadie.
On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mrs. Morris, the Board approved the Final Budget for 2006-2007 as presented by Ms. Margaret Jones.
On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Nunez, the Board approved accepting Cheniere PILOT taxes at $800,000.00 annually for ten (10) years which eliminates both the need to sell bonds and to enter into a lawsuit with monies used to provide any necessary construction cash flow first, then to provide funding for special projects as presented by Margaret Jones with data from bonding attorney Joseph Delafield.
On motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Morris, the Board received a report that Federal Emergency Management Act and Louisiana Public Assistance personnel were unable to attend June 29, but would be available on July 9 as presented by the Superintendent.
On motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the extension of the Lacassine Refuge contract and will continue to pursue a piece satisfactory for a swap with Cameron Parish School Board as presented by Mr. Benoit.
On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Nunez, the Board received a report and held consensus discussion on the use of corporal punishment in grades Pre Kindergarten through 3rd grade for the purpose of discipline as presented by Mr. Benoit.
On motion of Mrs. Morris, seconded by Mr. Trahan, the Board received a report on the status of final occupancy of Johnson Bayou High School and the status of the possible enclosure of the pavilion as presented by Architect Gayle Zembower and Mr. Welch. Mr. Zembower will more forward with applying for a permit to enclose the pavilion and will report on the status of the permit decision at the July 9, 2007 regular meeting.
On motion of Mrs. Theriot, seconded by Mr. Trahan, the Board approved one full-time intervention teacher each at Hackberry High School and Johnson Bayou High School with additional funds for full-time intervention teachers at all four schools to be provided through No Child Left Behind federal grant as presented by the Superintendent.
On motion of Mr. Nunez, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the salary schedules for hourly wage support personnel to align with two different school schedules, providing for support staff at Grand Lake High School and at Cameron Parish School Board to receive one additional day per week students are in school (6 days pay for 5 days work since Hackberry High School, Johnson Bayou High School and South Cameron High School support staff will receive current 5 days pay for 4 days work) effective July 1, 2007 as presented by the Superintendent.
On motion of Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Morris, the Board received a report on legislative updates as presented by the Superintendent.
On motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board received the report on potential $11,677,044.00 in Community Development Block Grant allotment through the Louisiana Recovery Authority to cover FEMA-ineligible hurricane impact costs on a reimbursement basis as presented by the Superintendent.
On motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mrs. Theriot, the Board approved the new physical address of the Cameron Parish School Board temporary office in Grand Lake as 1027 Hwy 384, Grand Lake, Lake Charles, La 70607 as presented by the Superintendent.
On motion of Mr. Trahan, seconded by Mr. Nunez, the Board approved the personnel recommendations as follows:
