Students of the Year Parish Winners
Cameron Parish has selected Students of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year. The students were selected by a committee of community representatives, teachers, supervisors, and administrators from throughout the parish. The Students of the Year Awards Program is designed to recognize outstanding elementary, middle/junior high, and high school students. These students are recognized for demonstrating excellent academic achievement, leadership ability, and citizenship.
The Students of the Year Awards Program is sponsored by the Louisiana State Superintendent through the State Department of Education and the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The initial school selections were:
Grand Lake High School – Grade 5, Vivian Furman; Grade 8, Brynn Fruge; Grade 12, Gabrielle Gay
Hackberry High School – Grade 5, Kaston Moore; Grade 8, Avery Duhon; Grade 12, Hayden Walton
Johnson Bayou High School – Grade 5, Kenzi Perry; Grade 8, Cadence McCreedy; Grade 12, Gracie Young
South Cameron High School - Grade 5, Meg Boudreaux; Grade 8, Macie LaBove; Grade 12, Allie Hardie
The Cameron Parish Students of the Year contest was held January 13, 2020 at the Cameron Parish School Board Office. The representatives from each school were scored on portfolios, academic achievements, writing ability, and interview.
Superintendent Charley Lemons greeted the parents and students to show support for all the Students of the Year Representatives. He commended the many accomplishments, awards, and recognition that the students shared in their portfolios.
The winners for the parish competition are Grade 5, Vivian Furman, Grand Lake High School; Grade 8, Brynn Fruge, Grand Lake High School; Grade 12, Gabrielle Gay, Grand Lake High School. These students will move on to the Regional Louisiana Students of the Year Competition later this semester.
Cameron Parish Students of the Year Coordinator, Courtnie King, would like to thank Mrs. Toni Kay Sibille, South Cameron High School’s Family and Consumer Science teacher and her students, Kiley Sibille and Kensly Sibille for preparing and serving refreshments at the event.
