Student of the Year Winners

The Students of the Year Awards Program is sponsored by the Louisiana State Superintendent through the State Department of Education and the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The initial school selections were: 

Grand Lake High School – Grade 5, Kayleigh Hayden; Grade 8, Nelly Gonzalez; Grade 12, Karisma Vidal

    Johnson Bayou High School – Grade 5, Lorna Coleman; Grade 8, Makala Snyder; Grade 12, Tanner Trahan

 South Cameron High School - Grade 5, Libby Baccigalopi; Grade 8, Gabriella Marceaux; Grade 12, Karlee Nunez

The Cameron Parish Students of the Year contest was held January 14, 2019 at the Cameron Parish School Board Office.  The representatives from each school were scored on portfolios, academic achievements, writing ability, and interview.

Superintendent Charley Lemons greeted the parents and students to show support for all the Students of the Year Representatives. He commended the many accomplishments, awards, and recognitions the students shared in their portfolios.

The winners for the parish competition are

Grade 5, Kayleigh Hayden, Grand Lake High School

Grade 8, Nelly Gonzalez, Grand Lake High School

Grade 12, Karisma Vidal, Grand Lake High School

These students will move on to the Regional Louisiana Students of the Year Competition later this semester.

Cameron Parish Students of the Year Coordinator, Eva January would like to thank Mrs. Toni Kay Sibille, South Cameron High School’s family and consumer science teacher and her students, Eric Gaspard, Gabrielle Mallett, Victoria Conner, and James Daigle for preparing and serving refreshments at the event.
